Dr. Stewart grew up in Prince George, B.C. He attended the University of Victoria and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1979. That same year, he married his wife, Holly-Anne. For the next two years, he worked as an inspector for B.C. Hydro in Revelstoke, B.C. They thoroughly enjoyed that mountain location, often taking incredible motorcycle trips throughout the Rockies.
In 1981 Guy chose to pursue a long-time work interest of his. He and Holly-Anne moved to Vancouver where he trained as an optician. He enjoyed his work as a licensed optician, but by 1985, came to realize that he wanted to pursue the challenges and rewards of a career in optometry. Guy had to leave family, home and job to pursue his dream, as the only English speaking optometry program in Canada was at the University of Waterloo in Ontario. However, he persevered, with grace under pressure and in 1990 he graduated with his Doctor of Optometry degree.
Upon graduating, Guy and Holly-Anne chose to return to Victoria as they loved the natural beauty of Vancouver Island and appreciated the educational, athletic and cultural opportunities for their children, Lauralyn and Tyler. Their family has been richly blessed and they have lived life fully in ensuing years. Guy maintains a comfortable balance between work and home, as he deeply enjoys his time with his family, church activities, cycling, skiing and woodworking. He and Holly-Anne still love motorcycling and spending time together in the beautiful outdoors.
Dr. Stewart has always been grateful that he decided to pursue his career aspirations to become an optometrist as he so enjoys working with his patients and looks forward to many more years in work that brings much satisfaction, meaning and joy to his life.
Dr LeRoy grew up on a small farm in Eastern Ontario. She attended the University of Waterloo and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree and Doctor of Optometry degree in 1998.While attending the University of Waterloo, Judith became quite involved with varsity athletics and competed for 5 yrs on both the track and cross-country running teams. Judith was lucky enough to have enjoyed a lot of success with her running, which included a number of National Championships and she was awarded the University of Waterloo’s female athlete of the year, in her final year of competition.
It was her love of running and the outdoors, which brought her to Victoria in 1998. She was a member of the National training centre, Pacific Sport, and during her first few years she worked part time as she trained full time. Again, Judith was lucky enough to have made a number of national teams and she competed around the world. The highlight being, representing Canada at the 2000 World Cross-Country Championships.
In 2001 Judith retired from international competition and started to work full time and pursue other passions. One being, third world eye care work. Judith joined TWECS (Third World Eye Care Society) and and travelled to Cambodia in 2002 and Kenya in
2006 on missions. She has also taken up other activities including cycling (both road and mountain) and is a member of the Spin doctors cycling club. She also enjoys golf, tennis, skiing and adventure racing.
Professionally, Dr LeRoy has developed a keen interest in specialty contact lenses fitting, specifically, those for keratoconic patients and post corneal transplant patients.
Dr LeRoy, like Dr Stewart, is very pleased with the decision to have pursued Optometry. The majority of her job satisfaction comes from meeting wonderful patients and working with her dedicated and amazing staff. She looks forward to many more years of happiness ahead.
