Our Practice in Victoria

Dr. LeRoy grew up on a small farm in Eastern Ontario. She attended the University of Waterloo and graduated with a Bachelor of Science, followed by a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1998.

While attending the University of Waterloo, Judith became quite involved with varsity athletics and competed for 5 years on both the track and cross-country running teams. She was awarded the University of Waterloo’s Female Athlete of the Year in her final varsity year. In 2009, she was inducted into the University of Waterloo’s Sports Hall of Fame.

Her love of running and the outdoors brought her to Victoria in 1998. She was a member of the national training centre, Pacific Sport, and during her first few years, she practiced optometry part-time as she competed internationally. Her highlight was representing Canada at the 2000 World Cross-Country Championships.

In 2001, Judith retired from international competition. She can now be found running the roads, acting as a running guide to visually impaired runners.

Professionally, she is currently a board member of the Victoria CNIB. She is a past clinical director associated with the medical program here in Victoria and has instructed for UVic Continuing Studies.

She has also been involved in third-world eye care work with the TWECS (Third World Eye Care Society). TWECS consists of eye care professionals and individuals who collect used eyeglasses from the public and travel to Third World countries, providing free eye care and eyeglasses to people experiencing poverty. She travelled on missions to Cambodia in 2002 and Kenya in 2006.

However, her third-world travels have been temporarily put on hold as she raises her family. Family Eyecare Centre still collects donated glasses to send to the TWECS projects.

Dr. LeRoy also has a particular interest in specialty contact lenses, including scleral contacts for people with keratoconus and those who have had a corneal transplant, as well as orthokeratology lenses for myopia management. Dr. LeRoy is a Full A Registrant of the College of Optometry, which allows her to manage eye diseases, including glaucoma.

Dr. Nazima Sangha, originally from the West Coast, earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology with honours from UBC and a Doctorate of Optometry from the Pacific University College of Optometry in Oregon. With great pleasure, she joined the team at the Family Eyecare Centre in 2010.

Dr. Sangha believes vision is far more than seeing 20/20. She is passionate about diagnosing and treating visual inefficiencies, including those related to the coordination of eye muscles, the ability to see depth (binocular vision), focus the eyes, and process visual information.

She is the clinical director of the vision therapy program at the Family Eyecare Centre, where individualized therapy services help people attain their full visual potential. Dr. Sangha is also a Full A Registrant of the College of Optometry, which allows her to manage eye diseases, including glaucoma.

Dr. Sangha has been a clinical director of the medical program here in Victoria. She has also travelled with the Third World Eye Care Society (TWECS) and AMIGOS Eye Care to Romania, Honduras, and Kenya to provide free eye care and eyewear to those most in need.

In Kenya, she met Dr. LeRoy, a fellow team member of TWECS. Locally, she has volunteered with Special Olympics, the annual Diabetes Fair, and sun-awareness programs.

Dr. Sangha was one of the youngest council members of the British Columbia Association of Optometrists. She also served as chair of the Greater Vancouver Optometric Society for 2 years and has earned the Tole Greenstein Award from the Northwest Congress of Optometry.

Dr. Wallace grew up in the Okanagan, where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree with honours at UBC. He then completed his Doctorate of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo in 2017 and moved to Victoria with his wife in 2019.

He loves the outdoors, cooking, and spending time with his family. He has been a member of our team since September 2023.

Carleen is our Family Eyecare Centre office manager. She has been with us since August 2015. Her background in nursing led her to the optical world over 20 years ago, and she is a certified optometric assistant.

Her extensive background has taken her through Saskatchewan, Canmore, Banff, and the Cayman Islands, and now she’s happily found her forever home in Victoria.

Carleen works behind the scenes, ensuring our office is organized and running smoothly and that we meet all your needs! If you can’t find her, just follow her contagious laughter that echoes throughout the office.

Besides Dr. LeRoy, Kiran has been here the longest, nearly 10 years. Kiran is the fun one who chooses the frames (among other very important jobs). She started as a receptionist and successfully transitioned to dispensing about 5 years ago. She has a ton of experience and style advice for patients when picking out their frames and lenses.

Last year, Kiran completed her optometric assistant course and is fully certified. She is a huge team player and a great asset to the team.

Kiran is passionate about her family and loves to do office Timmies runs in the early mornings!

This is one of 2 Kelly’s on our Family Eyecare Centre team. She’s Kelly 1 or Kelly 2 (depending on who you ask). But if you’re looking for her specifically, it’s recommended that you ask for Kelly H.

Kelly is a born and raised island girl. She leaped into the optical world in 2015—by accident, really. She thought she was applying to be a receptionist, but we trained her to be an optical dispenser instead.

After a year of dispensing, she got her foot in the door to vision therapy, and there’s no stopping her now. She is our fully certified vision therapist.

You can hear her laugh from every corner of our office. She’s also happy to discuss family, soccer, travel, dogs, and lunch. Mainly lunch.

Kelly was born in beautiful Victoria and returned after many years living in various cities, such as Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver. Kelly joined Family Eyecare Centre with 15 years of experience in the optometric profession as an optometric assistant in 2015.

Kelly coordinates the BlephEx treatment and dry eye program. She is passionate about improving patients’ eye health and their quality of life.

Kelly is always helping patients, be it with pretesting, visual field testing, picking out new frames, or booking annual eye exams. She loves connecting with patients on a personal level and making what can sometimes be stressful situations feel more relaxed and enjoyable.

Kim grew up in the Okanagan but has called Victoria home for 30 years. In 2016, she earned her diploma in office administration from Camosun College, and soon after, she was hired at Family Eyecare Centre. Kim’s responsibilities include reception, booking appointments, pre-testing patients, and the dry eye clinic.

On her days off, Kim enjoys cooking and spending time with her family and friends.

Originally from Winnipeg, Vickie moved here 3 years ago to enjoy the beautiful weather that Victoria is known for. Vickie is currently taking an optometric assistant course.

When not studying on the weekend, she is on 1 of the island’s many trails.

Noelle has been a part of the Family Eyecare team for almost 2 years. Although she has spent time in other provinces, she has a special place in her heart for Victoria.

With a spunky attitude and a warm smile, Noelle is an integral part of the clinic. She assists with dry eye care and contact lens coaching.

Noelle is currently studying to become a certified optometric assistant in Canada.
